The only genus in Paulowniaceae family. They are deciduous trees with large heart shaped leaves and long panicles of white-purple to lavender flowers native to eastern Asia. It is an extremely fast-growing tree with seeds that disperse readily, and is a persistent exotic introduced species in North America,[3] where it has undergone naturalisation in large areas of the Eastern US.
