The Vanda tricolor complex encompasses many colourful varietal forms of a wide-ranging Indonesian species. Described by Rumphius for Western consumption as early as the 17th century, under the auspices of the United East India Company, its centre of diversity lies in Java. Yet its natural distribution spreads across the outer islands as far as the Philippine Archipelago, from whence its close relatives, Vanda luzonica and V. ustii, originate. [Emrys Chew 2017-03-29]
